Subic At a Glance

Created under Philippine Republic Act No. 7227, Subic Bay Freeport Zone is the country’s first Freeport. This former US base is now managed by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Subic Bay is one of the key flagship projects of the Philippine government in Central Luzon towards economic development. It has become a self-sustaining hub for commerce & investment, infrastructure, maritime & transshipment activities and tourism destination in Asia Pacific. Here in Subic, people are more disciplined as compared elsewhere in the Philippines. Traffic rules are strictly implemented such as wearing of seat belts or first stop first to go. Law enforcers are given high regard as well.

A wide variety of nightlife available in the Subic Bay area. At the height of the US military presence in Subic, most Filipinos generally looked at Olongapo with disgust. There was hundreds of clubs located outside the main gate, in Barrio Barretto, or in nearby Subic. Added to these buildings are the Navy recreational services activities that were deserted. With the economic recovery of the area and a healthy population of young people, many of these empty buildings have reopened to meet the needs of the young Filipino.
